Video: Songlines – an intergenerational project

Over the summer, in partnership Magic Me, we brought together students from John Scurr, Shapla and Osmani Primary Schools and local care home residents from Pat Shaw House in an ambitious project called Songlines.

By exploring the spaces of Tower Hamlets through music, film, photography and story-telling, Songlines enabled children and adults to perform side by side in an inspiring intergenerational project. Many of the care home residents experience dementia so it was great to see them recognising songs, joining in the performance, and getting such pleasure from the arts.

We worked with several creative practitioners including Julian West (oboe), Roshi Nasehi (singer/songwriter), Surya Turner (writer/arts activist), Verity Standen (singer), Liane Harris (photographer), and Ellie Rees (film/visual artist), accompanied by our Trainee Music Leaders Abimaro, Ignacio and James.
