Earlier this year, La Nuova Musica performed at the London Handel Festival. Led by young director David Bates, the ensemble played Handel’s Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno featuring soloists Sam Furness, Christopher Lowrey, Augusta Hebbert and Hannah Sandison.
Watch the documentary below including rehearsal footage and extracts from the performance to see behind the scenes of an upcoming professional orchestra. David Bates reveals why La Nuova Musica was formed and his ambitions to introduce a younger audience to the works of Handel and baroque composers. Their vivacious enthusiasm for early works shines through!
In the video, David also mentions his new recording project with Lawrence Zazzo, performing lesser-known works by the early opera company, the Royal Academy of Music. Some of these works by Ariosti and Bononcini haven’t been performed since the 18th century! You can see La Nuova Musica and Lawrence play this programme live when they perform at Shoreditch Church (St Leonard’s) on Friday 13 December. Tickets are available via our website (students £5).
If you haven’t come across the Royal Academy of Music’s Ariosti or Bononcini, have a listen to the playlist below which also includes La Nuova Musica performing the Ouverture from Handel’s Il Pastor Fido.
