Listen: Scotland’s hidden treasure

Have you ever seen someone play the triplepipes…? Celtic woodwind specialist Barnaby Brown is one of the best triplepipe players out there and he’s coming to East London this summer. On Friday 13 June, he’ll be playing alongside Simon O’Dwyer (medieval Irish horns/bodhrán) and the Choir of Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge at In Praise of St Columba.

You have to see it to believe it, so watch Barnaby work his magic below as he uses circular breathing to create an endless drone and complex polyphony in the spectacular setting of a Scottish castle.

For one of Barnaby’s many collaborations with vocalists, listen to this haunting performance of Psalm 44 featured in the BBC’s History of Scotland series.
