Listen: Global folk minimalism

Firefly Burning are bring their summery sounds to Wilton’s Music Hall in June. The 5-piece ensemble from East London combines art-folk song, minimalism and Javanese Gamelan to create intricate melodies and pulsing rhythms.

Originally coming together as a free improv group, Firefly Burning moved towards collaborative writing in 2009 with their latest album Lightships being written whilst staying near the desolate yet beautiful North Cornwall coast.

To give you a taste of what they sound like, we’ve put together this playlist complete with tunes from other folk-inspired artists featuring at our Summer Festival including folk-in-a-box star Emily Barker, kora player Sura Susso, Associate Artist Arun Ghosh and Scottish harpist Catriona McKay.
