This December we’re welcoming festival newcomers Polish ensemble Kwartudium to Spitalfields for the first time. They’re coming together with previous associate artist, electronic musician Scanner in a unique collaboration.
Discover what comes out of the creative melting pot when we bring together two radical and experimental artists for an evening of music made from visual/graphic scores.
Scanner (Spitalfields Music Associate Artist 2013) is an internationally renowned electronic musician, experimenting with sound and space, with a string of critically acclaimed albums and collaborations with Wayne McGregor, Steve McQueen and Laurie Anderson. He brings live electronics alongside Kwartludium, known across Europe for presenting the striking and the contemporary.
Modern improvisation to visual scores has become the focus of a lot of the work of Polish ensemble Kwartludium in recent years. It’s a significant area of contemporary music and includes works by many outstanding composers, such as Karlheinz Stockhausen, Cornelius Cardew, Dubravko Detoni, Carl Bergstrøm-Nielsen and Christian Wolf.
We’ve put together a playlist of the music they’ll be performing so you can start exploring now, and you can hear it for yourself at Rich Mix on 12 December so head down for a dynamic evening of shifting moods.
Tickets are still available for this event from our website, where there’s information about all our festival events.
