We’re really excited to be able to introduce you to Associate Artist, saxophonist and composer Shabaka Hutchings. He’s a former BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist and known for his imaginative ways of blending music from across the globe into a unique sound.
In his Associate Artist series he’s looking at how we listen to the world around us and transforms our natural environments into music. Throughout the year he is collecting sounds from the local area to form an online sound archive which you can explore on the Spitalfields Re-Sounded Blog). He then turns the sounds into a new composition Spitalfields Re-Sounded and unwraps elements of this piece on a journey through the places where the sounds were found Spitalfields Re-Sounded Tour.
We caught up with Shabaka at the Cable Street Mural, the location of one of our Summer Festival photo shoots, to ask him more about Spitalfields Re-Sounds.
