What is Folie à Deux?

This summer Emily Hall’s new opera Folie à Deux tells an electrified tale of shared madness and love. Through a series of haunting songs, it explores delusion and loneliness within a relationship based on the phenomenon of the shared psychosis known as ‘folie à deux’. To find out more about what it is, Dr Lisa Conlan sheds some light on the science behind it:

Alongside Folie à Deux there’s a whole weekend of events inspired by Emily’s new work where you can immerse yourself in her soundworld with performances from singer/songwriter Mara Carlyle, composer Mira Calix and  Bedroom Community artists James McVinnie and Puzzle Muteson.
